A zoological plate from La Coquille
Insects, plate 11 belongs to the zoological atlas of the Voyage around the World on the corvette La Coquille. The expedition commanded by Louis-Isidore Duperrey took place from 1822 to 1825, and its results began appearing in 1826. This sheet is not a painting: it is a coloured scientific engraving.
Eleven insects and their details
The composition brings together eleven numbered insects, several coloured green, brown, red or ochre. Fine outline drawings isolate legs, heads, wing veins and body segments. The caption links the figures to scientific names used by Guérin, including cicadas, planthoppers and a mantidfly.
Guérin, Massard and Duperrey
The inscriptions on the plate credit Félix-Édouard Guérin-Méneville with the drawing and Massard with the engraving. Duperrey, a naval officer, explorer and cartographer, led the voyage and supervised its publication. These distinct roles place the image within the collective study of specimens brought back by La Coquille.

Our frames measure 1.7 cm on each side. For a 40x60 cm painting, the total framed size is therefore 43.4 x 63.4 cm.
Canvas 100% polyester (285 g/m²), UV-resistant and solvent-free inks, safe for children and allergy sufferers. The canvases are mounted on a 2 cm thick wooden frame (4 cm for very large formats).
