A pharmaceutical advertisement by Laboratoires Charvoz
This 20th-century French poster presents three historic products made by Laboratoires Charvoz. Dated between 1910 and 1950 in the reference record, it gives the address “3, chemin du Vallon · Lyon-Caluire” at the bottom and pairs the laboratory’s name with a highly simplified view of the digestive system.
The liver, stomach and intestines in three colours
At the centre, a purple liver, red stomach and pale-green intestines are rendered as flat shapes outlined in black. Three broad black arrows connect the organs to the handwritten French labels “le foie”, “l’estomac” and “l’intestin”. The halftone lilac ground, irregular forms and expressive lettering give the composition its distinctive vintage-advertising character.
Hépatogènes, Cachets Charvoz and Inertyl
The French text promotes three preparations: “Les Hépatogènes soulagent le foie”, “Les Cachets Charvoz calment et régularisent l’estomac” and Inertyl, to which the poster attributes an effect on intestinal bacterial flora. These are historical advertising claims; today the poster is of interest for its graphic design, bold colours and place in the history of pharmaceutical advertising.

Our frames measure 1.7 cm on each side. For a 40x60 cm painting, the total framed size is therefore 43.4 x 63.4 cm.
Canvas 100% polyester (285 g/m²), UV-resistant and solvent-free inks, safe for children and allergy sufferers. The canvases are mounted on a 2 cm thick wooden frame (4 cm for very large formats).
