Venice, a View of the Punta della Dogana by Karl Kaufmann opens onto the architecture along the waterfront. The dome of Santa Maria della Salute stands against a blue sky, while ochre façades are reflected in the lagoon. Gondolas and sailing boats in the foreground give this horizontal landscape a human scale and lead the eye towards the buildings.
Karl Kaufmann was an Austrian landscape and architectural painter. His views of Venice bring together monuments, boats and the effects of light on water. Here, the shapes of the buildings structure the composition, while reflections and small figures bring life to the surface of the basin.
The reproduction of Venice, a View of the Punta della Dogana can complement Venice-inspired décor in a living room or study.
