Venice, seen from the Piazzetta towards the west, in the direction of the Dogana and Santa Maria della Salute, with the Zecca, the Biblioteca Sansoviniana, and the column of Saint Theodore: An invitation to emotion
The scene opens on a luminous Venice, captured with a delicacy that invites contemplation. Perspectives stretch from the Piazzetta toward the Dogana and the majestic silhouette of Santa Maria della Salute, while the Zecca and the Biblioteca Sansoviniana punctuate the horizon. The palette blends soft ochres, navy blues, and silvery reflections, capturing the sparkle of the water and the warmth of the stones. The composition, balanced and rich in architectural details, creates a visual rhythm that transports: tranquil boats in the foreground, columns and monuments aligned in depth. This art print of the Venetian view transforms a historic moment into palpable emotion.
Giovanni Battista Cimaroli, master of Venetian landscape painting
Giovanni Battista Cimaroli is renowned for his talent in capturing the light and atmosphere of the lagoons in the 18th century, inheriting a tradition of Italian landscape painting blending realism and idealization. Influenced by vedutisti and the taste for picturesque perspective, he mastered urban geometry without sacrificing the poetry of the landscape. Among his works, there are urban and rural scenes where the treatment of light plays a key narrative role. This piece fits within this tradition: the art print Venice, seen from the Piazzetta... demonstrates the artist's mastery in orchestrating architecture, water, and sky into a subtle harmony.
