Where the right of withdrawal applies, contact us within 14 days of delivery. Return shipping is paid by the customer and the item must be sent to the European address provided by our customer service team. Damaged, defective or incorrect items are handled at our expense.

A pastel of Max Liebermann’s garden

The Artist’s Garden Seen East from the Terrace, with a View of the Birch Avenue and the Wannsee is a pastel on paper made around 1924. Signed “MLiebermann” at lower left, the sheet measures 30.2 × 23.3 cm.

From the terrace towards the lake

In this unusual vertical format, a potted plant stands in the foreground at the terrace edge. The lawn leads towards pale garden seats, while the birch avenue runs along the right of the composition. The Wannsee can be glimpsed beyond the trunks and foliage.

Colour observed directly in the garden

Liebermann layers green, yellow, blue and brown pastel strokes, allowing the paper to contribute to the light. The steps, lawn and trees organise the depth without making the vegetation rigid. The view belongs to the large body of work inspired by the garden of his summer house at Wannsee.
