Discover the enchanting Study for the Apotheosis of a Saint for San Bernardino dei Morti Milan by the illustrious Sebastiano Ricci, a work that perfectly embodies the grandeur of early 18th-century Italian Baroque. In this preparatory study, Ricci showcases his full talent to capture the spiritual essence and celestial magnificence through a play of light and color that transcends a simple sketch. The artist draws us into a dimension where the sacred comes to life, revealing a spiritual depth that still resonates today.
Born in Belluno in 1659, Sebastiano Ricci established himself as one of the masters of Venetian Baroque. His style is characterized by exceptional mastery of chiaroscuro and a palette of vivid colors that infuse unparalleled vitality into his compositions. The study for the Apotheosis of a Saint is a perfect example of his expertise, where every brushstroke seems animated by intense emotion. The figures rise in a sacred dance, wrapped in flowing draperies that show meticulous attention to detail, and the striking contrasts give the work an almost kinetic dynamic.
