About Still Life with Fish
Pieter de Putter painted this Still Life with Fish between about 1639 and 1659. The oil on panel measures 68.5 × 57.6 cm, bears inventory number SK-A-1295 and belongs to the Rijksmuseum. Signed on the lower-right edge of the table, it entered the collection in 1885 as a gift from Abraham Bredius.
Pike, bream and perch on a strainer
On the corner of a wooden table, a pike, a curved bream and two perch rest on an earthenware strainer. The head of another fish appears between the bream and perch. The strainer is tilted against a vessel, while the handle of a hook or landing net can be seen to the left, completing the deliberately plain arrangement.
A Dutch specialist in fish still lifes
De Putter worked mainly on fish still lifes, stalls, markets and fishermen. Here, the light picks out the slightly raised scales and wet appearance of the fish. The painter reused this same grouping of pike, bream and perch in several works, making it characteristic of his repertoire.

Canvas 100% polyester (285 g/m²), UV-resistant and solvent-free inks, safe for children and allergy sufferers. The canvases are mounted on a 2 cm thick wooden frame (4 cm for very large formats).
