Dated 1627, the Portrait of Maria Joachimsdr Swartenhont (1598-1631) is an oil painting on panel measuring 98.3 × 73.1 cm. It is held by the Rijksmuseum under inventory number SK-A-699. The museum catalogues it under Nicolaes Eliasz Pickenoy and describes the attribution of this pair of portraits as very persuasive.

Maria Joachimsdr Swartenhont, wife of Maerten Rey, is shown seated and half-length within an oval format. She holds gloves in her right hand. The inscription at upper right records her age, 27, and the year 1627. The painting is the pendant to the portrait of Maerten Rey, inventory number SK-A-698.
Dress and composition
The black dress stands out against a dark brown background. A broad pleated white ruff frames the face, while the transparent cap and lace cuffs gather the lightest details around the head and hands.
