Michiel Jansz. van Mierevelt painted and personally signed this portrait in 1636. François van Aerssen (1572–1641), Lord of Sommelsdijk, De Plaat and Spijk, was a diplomat in the service of the United Netherlands. This oil on panel measures 112.2 × 86 cm and belongs to the Rijksmuseum.
