Luigi Mayer, master of picturesque travel
Luigi Mayer, an 18th-century artist, is renowned for his Orient views and travel watercolors that blend topographical precision with a poetic sense of landscape. Influenced by the European fascination with discovering Mediterranean and Eastern lands, Mayer produced series of engravings and watercolors that fueled the collective imagination of his time. His work is characterized by attention to architectural detail, luminosity, and scenes of daily life, which are reflected in every art print. This historical origin gives the Borgas artwork an authentic documentary quality while maintaining an aesthetic strength typical of Mayer's pictorial tradition.
