Where the right of withdrawal applies, contact us within 14 days of delivery. Return shipping is paid by the customer and the item must be sent to the European address provided by our customer service team. Damaged, defective or incorrect items are handled at our expense.

Guarding the Alhambra — Rudolf Ernst Painted in Granada in 1886, Guarding the Alhambra is an oil on panel by Rudolf Ernst measuring 41 × 32 cm. The work is signed, dated and inscribed “R. Ernst / 86 / Granada” at the lower right. A turbaned guard holding a flintlock rifle stands in a doorway. Around him, Ernst records the Alhambra’s muqarnas vaulting, polychrome tiles and geometric decoration in precise detail; through the arch, a sunlit courtyard and orange tree come into view. Unlike many of Ernst’s studio composites, the architecture here was observed and painted on site in Granada. He added the guard, whose dark silhouette contrasts with the bright courtyard and the richness of the Nasrid ornament.
