Arnaut Chief is an oil on panel painted by Jean-Léon Gérôme in 1870. Signed at the upper left, the work measures 24.6 × 30 cm. This portrait of an Arnaut leader has also been catalogued under the title Bashi-Bazouk Chieftain.
Provenance published by Christie’s records that Goupil & Co. acquired the painting directly from the artist in April 1870. It later passed through several collections before remaining with a Dutch family for much of the twentieth century.
This reproduction preserves the portrait and Gérôme’s characteristic precision. Discover more works by Jean-Léon Gérôme in our collection.
